Standing in the murky river bank
As the spirit slowly sinks into the sand
How can I conceive of this structure,
In Its colossal and crippling form?
A return to that old philosophy
Of cowardice and quiet retreat
I’ll discreetly make my own way
Submit to the strength and the will of the tide
Closer and closer I inch towards the edge
Wading into the turbulent rage of the flow
complete and undeniable urge
To heed the call, to feel the fall
Currents are pulling me down too far
Crash through with shivered, strained air
Rocks at the crest for a chance yet given
Push forward, for a glimpse of the light
Further and further I look across the divide
Transfixed by victorious spoils of the land
A deafening and unyielding urge
To heed the call, to feel the fall
I sought my revival but starvation took hold
Now I long for the sinking and the treacherous cold

Sullen Cadence
05:04
|
|
||
Rising, unearthly - a yearning through the clouds
Deafening, this ghostly cry is coursing through the mire
These --
disembodied voices are howling my name
Footpath diminishing, scalding birds ahead
Earthen limbs and scarlet vines, extending from the rot
Writhing hands, gradually,
ferociously,
forcing me under -- can I seek any longer?
Boiling seethe below a sun-shattered surface
Persevering the scourge, sinking into defeat
Bleeding from the arch, weathering the day’s incision
A smoldering and radiant glow
Reflections of my eventual need
For the treasonous sting of the cold hereafter
Surrendering my tongue to the firmaments
Drawing failure across a parchment of blank sky
The sullen cadence sinks into the horizon
A hollow ring of the day’s last wake

The Corpses of Summer
04:40
|

Well what do we have here? dredged up from the dirt -
a feast for the flies, dragged across the peace-wall partition
Upending the trajectory of all those lonely years
The scornful disturbance of a cold and quiet mind
Coursing through the waves, drowning out the day’s last shelter
The fetid corpses of summer -- the festering root of our failure
The wrath of excavation -- a bygone stench reborn
Encircles the wreckage with the empty notion of growth
Preemptive rift of a grave indifference
Heeding collapse of our towering monuments
Drawing the dead toward the crest of the evening
Our shores littered with ruinous purge
Stabbing through the light, strangling the day's last whimper
The fetid corpses of summer -- the festering root of our failure
Withering under the sun, a mass grave of waste and negligence
The catastrophic tempest of summer was our final point of departure

Palace of Ruin
04:52
|
|
||
A scarlet wave detonation
quiet rumble through the piercing light
Cascading pillars of concrete and earth
Crushing the image of your early designs
They trample on your face as you sleep --
Bind your hands and torch your creations,
Cemented filled mouths can no longer speak
From a burial of silence and stone
A bullet through the ascending wings
Grazing the sands of apocryphal lands
Rooting out the seeds of rebellion
Rivulets of pain upon the caliphate’s --
Reign of silence traversing our borders
Cruel stillness of unmerciful order
A visceral pact, bound by coercive years of strangled light
Charred skin breaking through the rubble
Explosive shards through tender flesh
So goes the furtive search through the stones
The strained voice of a forgotten soil
Recalling the land I tried to create -
Forging walls from the grains of history
Hands clasped above a jasmine wreath
Dreaming the echoes of our palace in ruin
Kneeling down into quiet prayer --
A silent wake astride the graves of our fathers
No one remembered that we were here,
Misting memories in a coffin of glass
